KRAUSE Ice-Free Scaffolding System: When winter returns – and why the solution pays off all year round

Winter conditions have returned to many parts of Europe, with wet weather, frost and snowfall alternating within a matter of hours in some places. For logistics companies, haulage firms, local authorities, garages and motorway service area operators, this not only changes their daily work routine, but also their risk profile. In these weather conditions, solid layers of ice and snow can quickly form on lorry tarpaulins, box bodies or vehicle roofs. If these sheets come loose while driving, they pose an acute danger to other road users and can lead to damage, accidents and, in the worst case, serious injuries.

In addition to the safety aspect, the responsibility of operators is also coming into focus. Road traffic regulations require that vehicles are roadworthy before setting off and that visibility is not impaired. If vehicles are not de-iced and this leads to hazards or accidents, warnings or fines, entries in the vehicle register and, in the case of personal injury, further legal consequences may be imposed. For companies, this means potential liability and reputational risks. Added to this are downtime, insurance claims and costly clarifications. Therefore, it is not only the obligation to de-ice that is crucial, but also the question of how this can be implemented safely and in a standardised manner.

Planned rather than improvised: safe de-icing of vehicles

This is exactly where the KRAUSE ice-free scaffolding system comes in. It creates a controlled working environment in which de-icing and snow clearance do not depend on chance or unsafe temporary measures. A raised working platform provides convenient access to the relevant areas of the vehicle. Stairs, non-slip surfaces and all-round side protection ensure safe working conditions, even in wet, cold and slippery conditions. Depending on the structural conditions, the structure can be free-standing or wall-mounted.

Modular, site-specific and suitable for different vehicle fleetst

A key feature of the system is its modular design. This allows the length of the scaffolding to be adapted to the respective floor space and fleet structures – from compact solutions to longer systems for multiple vehicles. This turns de-icing into a repeatable process that can be integrated into the operations of a depot, rather than having to improvise each time.

More than just winter: year-round use as a maintenance and work platform

Even though the current onset of winter is the immediate reason, the business perspective remains important: the ice-free scaffolding is not limited to the frost season. With the appropriate railing extension set, an additional level can be used as a work surface. This allows the system to be used as a maintenance platform outside of winter, for example for visual inspections, cleaning or inspection work on vehicles. The investment therefore not only pays off in critical weather conditions, but also supports safe work organisation around the vehicle fleet all year round.

Accessories for safe processes and clear areas

In addition to the railing extension set, which enables year-round use of the lower platform level, the ice-free scaffolding system can be expanded with specifically coordinated components. A specially developed ice scraper with holder supports the safe removal of ice sheets and snow directly from the vehicle roof. Barrier sets with warning signs visibly demarcate the work area and prevent unauthorised access. Robust steel plates are available for demanding or yielding surfaces, which increase the stability of the system and thus additionally ensure safety in daily operation.

Why act now?

Every year, the onset of winter shows how quickly moisture and cold can pose real dangers. Falling ice sheets are not a theoretical hazard, but a known and documented risk. Those who organise and implement de-icing correctly protect drivers and the environment, reduce liability risks and prevent unnecessary downtime. At the same time, year-round use provides additional value that extends beyond the winter months.
