Optimising occupational safety during the operation, cleaning and maintenance of tankers and silo trucks

Ensuring occupational safety when handling tankers and silo trucks is a major challenge. During operation, the vehicles have to be climbed onto, especially for loading, but employees are also repeatedly exposed to hazardous situations during cleaning, maintenance and repair work. The use of suitable technical solutions can make these operations much safer. In addition to standardised solutions from the KRAUSE range, KRAUSE also offers special solutions tailored to individual customer requirements.

Hazards during loading and sampling

There is a considerable risk of falling when filling tankers. Although the single-sided walkways with fold-up railings fitted as standard on the vehicles make it easier to climb up, they cannot provide the necessary all-round protection against falling when opening the dome cover. KRAUSE tanker ladders are moved up to the vehicle compartment to be reached. The height can be flexibly adjusted to the respective vehicle using a smooth-running rack and crank. Once the brakes have been applied, the ladder can be climbed using the handrail on both sides. Once at the top, the ladder platform can be left and the vehicle climbed onto. The working area is surrounded by a large, self-supporting handrail cage, which is available in a round or square design. After docking the filling device, the driver can leave the danger zone ergonomically and safely.

Despite their size, the tanker ladders are easy to transport and are available with plastic or solid rubber tyres. Thanks to the wide cantilevered platform, it is not necessary to drive under the vehicles, which also allows them to be used on silo and tank wagons on rails.

Challenges in cleaning and maintenance

Drivers or hauliers must enter the vehicles regularly to clean the inside and outside of tankers. Wet surfaces, lubricants or cleaning agents significantly increase the risk of slipping and falling. Designs with anti-slip platforms made of R13 grating are particularly suitable here. Tanker ladders with high slip resistance reduce the risk of falling when entering and exiting the tanker, even in wet or oily conditions.

There is a high risk of falling and tripping when servicing tankers and silo trucks. Mechanical work at height requires stable and safe working conditions, which are ensured by tanker ladders. In addition, tools and spare parts must be transported safely to and from the workplace.

Tanker ladders increase occupational safety, which also has an impact on the absenteeism rate of employees. They reduce downtimes and thus make the vehicles more economical. They are supplied in prefabricated assemblies so that they are quickly assembled and ready for use.

Individual customised solutions

In addition to the standard products, which provide sufficient safety at work in many situations, KRAUSE also offers customised solutions that are specifically tailored to customer requirements. These can be special mobile accesses with stairs, suspended working platforms that can be driven underneath with a sophisticated safety concept or rail-guided systems. Folding stair elements, removable railings and integration into existing structures customise these special solutions to meet the customer's specific needs.

The requirements are precisely recorded and documented in an in-depth on-site analysis. Transparency and ongoing dialogue ensure that clients are involved in the planning process right from the start. The customised solutions can be equipped with additional safety features such as more stable platforms and extended fall protection. Power, air and supply connections can be installed if required. Parts of the structure can also be powder-coated in colour on request. Customisation ensures that the specific requirements and conditions on site are optimally taken into account.

Investments in occupational safety always pay off

Occupational safety when operating, cleaning and maintaining tankers and silo trucks can be significantly improved by using KRAUSE products. The mobile ladders and customised special solutions offer flexibility and high safety standards that meet the special requirements of these work areas. In particular, the different slip resistance classes of the treads and standing surfaces are a decisive factor in preventing accidents.

Regular training in the safe use of access technology is recommended to ensure the highest possible level of work safety. The targeted use of KRAUSE products can significantly increase safety and efficiency when working on commercial vehicles.
